Duty and Valor on Display in Late-Night Thunder Rain Truck Recovery Operation

On July 10, 2025, at approximately 09:46 PM local time, the Los Santos County Sheriff's Department (LSSD) received an emergency call reporting a traffic accident involving a runaway truck that had veered off the road due to brake failure.
Dispatch immediately deployed available units 282 Sam, 280 Sam, and 281 Sam to the reported location at Tongva Valley - Zancudo Rd. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with both the driver and the passenger of the truck. The driver was in visible shock and reported general body pain caused by the impact, while the passenger sustained an injury to their right arm.
Given the position and condition of the truck, Sergeants Schneider and Bievens assessed that a standard vehicle recovery would be insufficient due to the terrain and weight of the vehicle. They swiftly coordinated with the Los Santos Fire Department (LSFD) to assist with heavy-duty extraction tools to ensure a safe and efficient recovery process.
At the same time, Deputies Davenford and Livingston provided BLS and evacuated both the driver and the passenger to safety while awaiting medical evaluation.
Fire units, including Firefighter Raffaello Manfrin and Firefighter Alice Aensley, arrived on scene approximately 15 minutes later. A thorough assessment of the truck was conducted to rule out any fire risks.
According to the truck driver’s testimony, the vehicle had recently completed a logistics delivery from the port and was en route to the airport for another shipment when the brakes failed during an uphill turn.
“There appear to be no sparks—just need to get the stabilization rods,” stated Firefighter Aensley on scene.
Sergeant Bievens performed a full license and documentation check on the driver. All necessary permits and licenses were found to be valid and in compliance with current regulations.
After an hour-long joint effort, the truck was successfully recovered with no further incident. Although the vehicle sustained minor damage, it was still operable. Deputies escorted the vehicle to the nearest workshop to ensure it reached the location safely and without further risk to public safety.
The Sheriff M. Torres commends the quick response and cooperation between all units and the Los Santos Fire Department, whose teamwork ensured that the incident was handled professionally and safely.
